Overview

Our Houston studio team seeks a licensed Landscape Architect with project management experience ready to be an integral part of our studio located in downtown Houston, Texas.  Design Workshop Inc. is 100% employee-owned and as an internationally recognized firm focused on landscape architecture, urban design, community and regional planning, market analysis and strategic services. Responsibilities

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead multidisciplinary teams to deliver complex, high-quality landscape architecture and planning projects on time and on budget.
  • Serve as the primary client contact, cultivating trusted advisor relationships with both public and private sector clients.
  • Manage all aspects of the project lifecycle, including staffing, schedules, budgets, and quality control—ensuring alignment with client goals and firm standards.
  • Mentor and develop emerging staff, fostering a collaborative studio culture that encourages growth and creativity.
  • Collaborate with firm Principals and senior leadership to develop and implement strategic project and firm initiatives.
  • Support business development efforts through proposal writing, client presentations, and relationship-building activities.
  • Coordinate seamlessly across internal design teams, external consultants, and stakeholders to advance project goals.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Landscape Architecture from an accredited program.
  • Licensure as a Landscape Architect is required.
  • 5–7 years of progressive experience in project management within a design or planning firm.
  • Strong leadership skills, with the ability to inspire teams and drive consensus in a fast-paced environment.
  • Demonstrated experience managing client relationships, leading meetings, and navigating complex stakeholder dynamics.
  • Proven success in managing budgets, staffing plans, and project schedules.
  • Ability to mentor and coach junior staff, and contribute to a positive and inclusive studio culture.
  • Working knowledge of site planning and construction observation is helpful.

Differentiators:

  • four (4) years or more of demonstrated skill in site design, technical design documentation and construction observation experience; project management and business development; success managing projects from conceptual design through completion of construction documents; proven experience producing drawings and specifications from the schematic stage through construction observation.
  • self-driven desire and ability to lead others in the design and construction documentation/construction observation process.

Compensation

The salary range for this role is $75,000 - $85,000 and a final offer to join the firm is based on our review and understanding of your demonstrated professional skills and experience. We are 100% employee owned; employees become participant-owners in an ESOP Trust. This is designed as a long-term wealth-building benefit, with the employees’ accounts increasing as the value of the business increases. Accounts are funded entirely by company contributions. Similarly, we expect that as you contribute to growing the firm that you will continue to grow your compensation by qualifying for annual pay-for-performance merit increases, discretionary bonus payouts based on the firm's profitability and professional advancement awards. In addition to pay, we provide comprehensive health, well-being and savings benefits including employer paid medical plans with health savings account (HSA) options; dental and eyecare coverage; life, disability and pet insurances; a 401K plan with a 5% company match; personal time-off benefits including financial support for volunteer efforts and the pursuit of professional memberships/certifications.
